A recent report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights states that the Seven Counties Services data breach occurred due to an email phishing attack.

On August 12, 2024, Seven Counties Services' IT department discovered that the company had fallen victim to an email phishing attack. The attackers sent emails that seemed to come from a trusted source, deceiving employees into opening them. When staff members responded to these fake emails, they unintentionally allowed the unauthorized party to gain access to their accounts and any confidential data they contained.

Data breach letters were sent out by Seven Counties Services on October 3, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
