A recent report from the Attorney General of Maine states that the USAA was compromised due to a cyber security attack that was discovered on April 30, 2024 after the company determined that a system error occurred during a “routine update” causing customers’ documents to be accessible by an unauthorized actor. USAA launched an investigation that confirmed that some customers’ information was compromised. USAA reviewed the files to determine which consumers were impacted and what information was compromised. Data breach letters were sent out by USAA on August 27, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
