A recent report from the Attorney General of Maine states that the Pacific Guardian Life Insurance was compromised after detecting suspicious activity in its email system on September 5, 2023. This sparked an internal PGL data breach investigation, which confirmed that confidential data had been accessed on August 25, 2023.
By March 5, 2024, the investigation had come to a close. By this time, PGL confirmed that the data breach had over 160k victims. The hackers had stolen information including names, Social Security numbers, and financial account information from these people.
Data breach letters were sent out by Pacific Guardian Life Insurance on April 4, 2024, informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company is a Honolulu, Hawaii-based insurance company. PGL has more than 1,000 authorized agents offering life and disability insurance products in 46 states nationwide. The company has more than 112 employees, and generates around $36 million in revenue each year.
