This data breach was disclosed following a cyber security incident at MEMC, which may have affected as many as 10,780 individuals, potentially exposing sensitive personal identifiable information.

What Happened?

A recent report from the Attorney General of Maine states that the MEMC data breach occurred due to a cyber security attack that was discovered on June 12, 2024 after the company experienced unauthorized access to its computer network. MEMC launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party removed files and folders from its network that may have contained confidential information belonging to individuals. MEMC reviewed the files to determine who was impacted and what information was compromised. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include:

  • names,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • driver’s license numbers,
  • government ID numbers,
  • passport numbers,
  • and dates of birth

Data breach letters were sent out by MEMC on September 27, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
