H&R Block Data Breach Investigation

What Happened?

A recent report from the Texas Attorney General's office states that the H&R Block data breach occurred due to a cybersecurity attack. The unauthorized party used information obtained from sources other than H&R Block to gain access to information associated with certain clients' accounts or MyBlock accounts between August 5, 2024 and August 7, 2024.

The types of data potentially compromised in the breach include:

  • names,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • financial account information,
  • driver's license numbers,
  • and dates of birth.

Data breach letters were sent out by H&R Block on October 3, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
