Houston Housing Authority Data Breach Class Action Investigation

According to a report filed with the Texas Attorney General's office, the Houston Housing Authority fell victim to a ransomware attack on September 21, 2024. Initially believed to be contained, the Department of Homeland Security later discovered malware on an HHA computer system on October 24, 2024. The situation became more severe when hackers claimed possession of 38 gigabytes of data from the organization's systems. The compromised data includes:

  • Social Security numbers,
  • addresses,
  • dates of birth,
  • and driver’s license numbers

On November 15, 2024, the Houston Housing Authority officially reported the data breach to the Texas Attorney General, initiating the process of notifying affected individuals whose personal information may have been compromised in this incident.
