At Console & Associates, our data breach lawyers are closely examining the recent Gaia Software data breach. This data breach was disclosed following a cyber security incident at Gaia Software, which may have affected as many as 56,676 patients at Americare Renal Center, potentially exposing sensitive personal information.

Data Breach Incident Details

A recent report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and Vermont Attorney General states that the Gaia Software data breach occurred due to a cyber security attack that was discovered on or about February 5, 2024. The company detected that an unauthorized third party infiltrated Gaia’s computer network prompting Gaia to secure its network and launch an investigation with the help of independent IT security and forensic investigators that was concluded on April 19, 2024. It was also found that the hackers demanded a ransomware payment.

It was confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed Gaia's computer system and accessed confidential information stored on it that may have belonged to patients of Americare Renal Center. Gaia Software reviewed the files to determine which consumers were impacted and what information was compromised. While the information breached varies depending on the individual, it may include:

  • name,
  • mailing address,
  • date of birth,
  • social security number,
  • health insurance information,
  • and/or health information

Data breach letters were sent out by Gaia Software on June 28, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
