Community HousingWorks Data Breach Investigation

What Happened?

A recent report from Community HousingWorks' filing with the Attorney General of Montana states that the Community HousingWorks data breach occurred due to suspicious activity detected within certain company email accounts on December 22, 2023. An investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor gained access to the email accounts of certain CHW employees, including emails and attachments containing confidential information belonging to various individuals.

The compromised data may include:

  • Addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Credit/debit card numbers

Data breach letters were sent out by Community HousingWorks on October 7, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
