BBS Financial Data Breach Class Action Investigation

What Happened?

Based on a report filed with the Maine Attorney General's office, BBS Financial experienced a ransomware attack that compromised their systems. The incident, discovered on January 29, 2024, resulted in unauthorized actors gaining access to and extracting confidential data from the company's networks. The cybercriminals responsible for the attack demanded a ransom payment in exchange for deleting the stolen information. While BBS Financial ultimately made the payment and received confirmation of data deletion, the company cannot guarantee that the information wasn't copied or misused prior to its removal. The compromised information may include:

• Government-issued identification numbers
• Social Security numbers
• Financial account information
• Health insurance details
• Billing codes

On November 11, 2024, BBS Financial began sending data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was potentially compromised in this security incident.
