A recent report from the Attorney General of California states that the Assurance IQ was compromised due to a cyber security attack on February 12, 2024. The company learned that an agent inappropriately used their credentials to access Assurance’s agent systems. The employee shared information about certain consumers for unauthorized use prompting Assurance to disable the employee’s access, fire the employee, and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that the employee accessed information between April 1, 2022 and January 11, 2024 belonging to policyholders, beneficiaries, and prospective customers for an unauthorized purpose. Data breach letters were sent out by Assurance IQ on March 4, 2024 informing affected individuals about the nature of the incident and compromised data.
