This data breach was disclosed following a cyber security incident at AnnieMac Home Mortgage, which may have affected as many as 171,074 individuals, potentially exposing sensitive personal identifiable information.
Based on filings with the Maine Attorney General's office, AnnieMac Home Mortgage detected suspicious network activity on August 23, 2024. Further investigation revealed unauthorized access to their systems between August 21 and August 23, 2024, during which time an unknown actor accessed and copied confidential consumer information.
After securing their network and conducting a comprehensive investigation with cybersecurity specialists, AnnieMac confirmed the breach and began the process of identifying affected individuals. The company issued formal data breach notification letters on November 14, 2024, informing victims about the extent of the compromised data.
